Clifton goal

Highlights

More information

The goal for the Down'ards team is in the Henmore Brook on Watery Lane at Clifton, approx 1.5 miles from the centre of the play zone. The ball is goaled when it is struck three times against the stone plinth. This can only be done whilst the player honoured with task of scoring is actually in the river.

Normally by the time the ball has reached the Sturston goal,  several hundred spectators have also arrived. But at Clifton, because the ball has to travel through town, it is easier for the ball to be spirited away and more difficult for spectators to keep track. So often the goaling is done with just a few spectators watching.
