Long stay car-parks

All the long stay car parks also allow short stay.

Parking charges [changing in April 2025 - to be updated]

All these car parks have the same charges and give the choice of pay & display (cash only, no cards) or pay by phone.

Parking is free for Derbyshire Dales residents before 11 and after 3, when displaying the window sticker.

1. Shaw Croft DE6 1GH

Shaw Croft is the biggest car park in Ashbourne. It's the one you will tend to find and use as a first time visitor but alas, it is limited to 4 hours. Follow this link for more information.

2. Bus station DE6 1BW

Accessed from King Edward Street, the bus station car park is limited to 4 hours.

Note - the Market Place car park is permanently closed from Feb 2025

Free short-stay parking

a. Sainsbury's DE6 1AA

Sainsbury's car park offers 2 hours free, using APNR for enforcement. There is no requirement to be a customer but it would be polite to buy something.

b. Waterside retail park

This allows 4 hours free - it's a ten minute walk into town.

b. Roadside parking

There is lots of free short stay roadside parking and if you are prepared to drive around you are sure to find somewhere.

  • School Lane - 2 hours - by St Oswalds Church.
  • Mayfield Road - 1 hour - by the school.
  • Compton - herringbone and parallel spaces - 1 hour.
  • Cokayne Avenue - 1 hour.

c. Derbyshire Dales car parks

From April 2025 there is 30 minutes free in all the main car parks. You have to leave after your time is up and you need to get a ticket from the machine.
