St John Street

St John Street is the eastward continuation of Church Street and stretches from the junction with Dig Street, past the bottom of the Market Place, to the park. It is lined both sides with tall terraced town houses. Most have Georgian or newer frontages but often these are hiding much older interiors. Those closer to the Market Place have always been commercial premises while those towards the park were, in the past, substantial family dwellings. More recently some of these have been split into flats or converted to shops or offices. Most are grade 2 listed.
