Drive out of Ashbourne along the A52 in the direction of Leek and follow the brown tourist road signs.
Don't take any short-cuts suggested by your satnav as these may take you down very narrow roads and farm tracks and they may also bring you to the wrong entrance.
The X52 runs between April and September and again over Halloween. It collects at around 10:10 am in Ashbourne and departs Alton Towers at around 5pm. This page on the bus operator's website has a link to the timetable.
It's a lovely cycle ride to Alton Towers using back roads and when you get close you can hear the screams from the rides. But its not really feasible to visit the theme park by bike, unless you are super-fit.
It's too far to walk.

Ashbourne is the perfect place to base yourself for visiting Alton Towers. Take the whole family to enjoy the thrill rides, children's rides and beautiful gardens. Or drop the kids off by the entrance and pick them up later.
A visit will take all day so allow yourself plenty of time and try and arrive early. If you can afford it, the queue-jump tickets are worth the extra money.
